Youth Fitness Education

    

    Since 2009, YFE is a non profit organization with the hope to inspire student/athletes by involving themselves in fitness & education to see them succeed as they achieve their goals throughout life. I believe that this program is what the youth needs as it allows them to grow & learn not only about middle school, but what's beyond that too. It gives the youth the power and knowledge to prepare themselves for their future. YFE provides students a safe environment after school & give them the opportunity to get ahead compared to others their age by giving them information about local high schools, colleges, & careers. We give them the tools to use such as 21st century skills, enrichment activities (dance, music, art, etc.), sports (fundamentals, league play, tournaments, conditioning, clinics, etc.), & proper fitness training that allows them to live a healthier lifestyle. We incorporate fun experiences such as field trips to sporting events, local colleges and high schools, host basketball events, & more!

    Our program has received an award from the Volunteer Center as one of thee top non profits in the bay area by popular vote and also a certificate of recognition by the Daly City council members for our community involvement. We are also an accredited organization by the USA Basketball Youth Development and affiliated with the Daly City Recreation Department for athletics.    

As the Program Coordinator, I was in charge of assisting the director with athletics and the after school program at Ben Franklin Intermediate School. I lead a class of 20+ students out of 60+ as an instructor to support them with homework, fitness routines, teaching enrichments, and giving them a safe place to continue to learn. I also help fundraise for our org and monitor the rest of the students in our program to insure their safety and well being. Our program gives the youth a safe environment to further their education and understand life outside of Middle School which gives them a head start compared to others their age. We are also in charge of athletics with over 200+ athletes that play in part of our USA/NBA Jr. Basketball, Park & Rec, CYO, AAU, and school teams.

    In July 2015, we were awarded with a Certification of Recognition by the city.  The City of Daly City commended YFE for challenging and inspiring young leaders through fitness and education programs at Benjamin Franklin Intermediate School.  "Your commitment to excellence makes our communities stronger. - David Canepa (Council Member)  In June of 2015, we were awarded by The Volunteer Center on the 18th at the Minna Gallery for being voted in as the best Volunteer Organization in the Bay Area.  It was only a team of 4 of us running the program.  We ran Y.F.E. from 2014-2017!
