NDNU Hallmarks Reflection

Image
The Hallmarks of a Notre Dame de Namur Learning Community, developed by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in collaboration with SND learning communities, are: We proclaim by our lives even more than by our words that God is good. We honor the dignity and sacredness of each person. We educate for and act on behalf of justice and peace in the world. We commit ourselves to community service. We embrace the gift of diversity. We create community among those with whom we work and with those we serve. We develop holistic learning communities which educate for life.      Notre Dame de Namur University’s founding sisters continued to send the message of God’s goodness into NDNU.  They paved the way for future generations of students like myself to create a place where we can learn and do good through God.  At NDNU, I'm blessed to share this wisdom to spread this added knowledge I have learned.  I proclaim that my life is even more than by our words that God is goo...

Physical Education Instructor

Image
As one of the P.E. Instructors, I instruct students by implementing exercises to teach them the importance of warming up and how to get the body ready for physical activities that will prevent injuries. I teach them various sports and different games that pertain to different age groups. I like to create new fun games for all the students and include rules that are easy to understand. Also, I’m one of the main supervision for the safety of all the students out on the yard too.  I've been teaching P.E. for almost 10 years now and have enjoyed it ever since and have fell in love with doing this even til this day...      I dont just show my students new activities, play games, and teach them how to play sports but let them know how important fitness is in life. As we grow, our bodies get older and we try to adapt to our physical changes throughout life so we need to take care of ourselves. I want to be able to still run around with my kids and compet...

SF Basketball Academy

Image
SF Basketball Academy was founded in 2017 with the purpose of bringing high level basketball development programs to players around the Bay Area. Utilizing the education, experience and passion around the game of basketball we want to ensure players learn the game using proven methods geared to improvement, safety, and fun.      Basketball 24/7: We do this all for the youth, to promote fitness, and show the importance of education too. It's more than just a game, it's life lessons plus the experiences they learn from it. We provide basketball tournaments, have multiple boys/girls teams of various ages, clinics, camps, group and personal training with trained/certified USA Basketball coaches.       Duties include managing staff, updating website/social media content, maintaining contact with local businesses/schools, scheduling trainings, organizing events, and coordinating programs for about 200+ youth athletes year round.  I'm...

America Scores Bay Area

Image
We started up this program at the school of Woodrow Wilson Elementary in Daly City by partnering with America Scores Bay Area.   I coach 1st-5th grade soccer players and I'm also the soccer manager on site to run our after school program using the America Scores curriculum. We focus on poetry, writing, coding, and community involvement in our learning portion that we incorporate besides just learning the game of soccer. We practice during the weekdays and play games on Saturdays.   America Scores Bay Area is a soccer program which utilizes poetry and emphasizes on leadership, teamwork, and integrity.  We have 3 golden rules which are: no put downs, hands & feet to yourselves, and be honest!  Check out the links below for more information :) https://scoresu.org/woodrow-wilson https://www.americascoresbayarea.org/daly-city Soccer Youtube Videos

Youth Fitness Education

Image
Since 2009, YFE is a non profit organization with the hope to inspire student/athletes by involving themselves in fitness & education to see them succeed as they achieve their goals throughout life. I believe that this program is what the youth needs as it allows them to grow & learn not only about middle school, but what's beyond that too. It gives the youth the power and knowledge to prepare themselves for their future. YFE provides students a safe environment after school & give them the opportunity to get ahead compared to others their age by giving them information about local high schools, colleges, & careers. We give them the tools to use such as 21st century skills, enrichment activities (dance, music, art, etc.), sports (fundamentals, league play, tournaments, conditioning, clinics, etc.), & proper fitness training that allows them to live a healthier lifestyle. We incorporate fun experiences such as field trips to spo...

Communication

Image
I enjoyed taking the Communications Skills class at NDNU with Professor Arbore.  I really thought this was going to be like a public speaking class, but was a much more fun experience that I could have imagined for this class.  I was able to communicate more effectively by practicing presentations while getting vital feedback on how I presented myself and ways I could change things to be more fluent when speaking.  I believe this course has made me not just speaking clearly but my writing preparations made me speak with more clarity, accuracy, and more passion.  This was such a great class to be in and made a lot of great people too.  I owe a lot of my progress to my professor, Patrick Arbore who really wanted to see everyone excel and support us in every way he could.  Below I have copied my "Who Am I" paper to track my progress. :) “Who Am I? or Who I Am!” My name is Oliver Quesada, working multiple roles in the Physical Education/...

Favorite Class at NDNU

Image
My favorite class at NDNU was my Stress In A Work Place with Professor Madden.  This was such a fun class to be in as my classmates were awesome and Dr. Madden really made the class enjoyable to learn.  This really gave me the continued pursuit to learn and have the ability to inspire others with that love.  This class made me demonstrate a lot of skills that I had to hone throughout this course.  She had us test ourselves with team building concepts, communication aspects, and finding deeper feelings that could be expressed through multiple ways.     This class challenged me to think outside the box, figure out new ways to solve things, and work on ourselves to become better than we think we are.  My favorite part of the class was when I had to create a lesson plan for the class on how to identify and help reduce stress in a colorful activity.  My objectives was to show and tell the class about how working with colors have spe...

Diversity

Image
I developed critical thinking abilities and a foundation of ethical understanding that will allow me to serve people of diverse ethnic, cultural, gender, and other backgrounds.  Many courses support me in learning about this but two that stood out were my Islam class and World History.   My Islam class was a very informative and interesting course as I was able to learn so much about the people, culture, traditions, and understand the religion so much more.  Especially living in the bay area, we are able to experience and be  surrounded by such diversity.  There are often many times we may not understand or think people are different, yet we should be looking at it as a uniqueness and we are able to want to learn more about each other rather than push each other way only because of what we don't know yet.   Taking a religion course really gives you a better chance to comprehend and take in the cultural aspects.  This gave me a chance to k...

Research Methods

Image
This was my Reserach Method Proposal which tested my way to demonstrate analytical, problem solving, and project management skills. In Class vs Distance/Online Learning Student Satisfaction Introduction: During this very different and difficult time of COVID-19, we have distanced ourselves from the “outside world.”  We’re trying to understand and get a grasp on how our world is changing but adapting to the best of our abilities.  One of these important changes worth discussing and researching is the concept of distance learning.  For some time, we have been accustomed to being in class but with technology we have created new ways to learn plus obtain education from home. Going through public school education from elementary until high school everything was done in class and in person.  It wasn’t until junior college I was aware of “hybrid” classes where work could be done from home while we had to report to class on certain days.  Then as I continued my educatio...

Leadership

Image
I love to learn and continue to add on experiences to give me an opportunity to become better than I was.   One in particular that I believe gives me a chance to learn and hope to inspire others was the Community Leadership class which was an awesome way to learn more about myself in a professional aspect and how to help support the team, group, or organization by strengthening my leadership skills using the Gallup Clifton Strengths Assessment Test.  It gave me a complex yet simple list of my talents or themes emphasizing the top five of my leadership strengths.      The Achiever theme really shows my hard work and dedication to succeed. With the Relator theme, it was about enjoying close relationships with others. Its about me finding deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a goal which I do like working with people to accomplish things together.  I enjoy the teamwork and getting to know who I work with better....

Ethical Principles

Image
At NDNU for my Professional Ethics and Social Responsibility course, I developed the ability to understand and demonstrate adherence to ethical principles while understanding more about myself during the process.  This class really gave me a better perspective on what a vocation means to me, what the purpose of work is, learning about Aristotle's virtues, understanding the Aristotelian ethics, comprehending Kant's rational view on modern philosophical ehtics, and connecting core values and culture.   One of the most interesting things to learn about was Aristotle, is one of thee most famous greek philosophers.  He was genius with ethics that he recognized people with different circumstances so it was universal.  His influence over time has been significant as his system has served as the foundation for the science, philosophy, and theology.  He was truly “the Philosopher” as even in modern times, we still go back to reference from his teachings and words....

Self Transcendence - Love or to be In-Love

Image
Video Link Self Transcendence  Love or to be In-Love As human beings, we achieve authenticity in self-transcendence as we live in a universe filled with never ending questions and answers.   We constantly ask what we want, why, how, and/or where as if we will find a justified true answer.   But we continue to try to be better and push ourselves to reach a limitless potential.   We as people thrive when we find or get answers that give us that feeling of value, pure goodness, and being truly happy. Happiness is the purpose of life, going back to Aristotle, as we achieve it through the course of our whole lifetime consisting of health, friends, wealth, knowledge, and love which leads to human nature towards the enrichment of human life.   This requires us to make choices, which some may be very difficult.   This connects to pleasure which is different from happiness as it is short lived, more so acquired with substances while happiness is long lived and n...

About Me...

Image
Hello,   My name is Oliver, a Filipino American born in SF and raised in Daly City.  I was raised by two hard working and awesome parents who always instilled the importance of family, our Filipino heritage, and embracing the people around us.  I grew up in the bay area cheering for the 49ers (Football), Warriors (Basketball), Giants (Baseball), Earthquakes (Soccer), and Sharks (Hockey)!  I love the diversity of the people here in the bay as well as the cultural cuisine, ever changing local weather, iconic sceneries, and the championship level atmosphere here near the city by the bay. (shot by by friend, @BarxkyPhotography)   Family is thee most important thing in my life.  I wouldn't be who I am without them.  I grew up with two younger brothers who were my rivals while at the same time my best friends.  Being the eldest, I was always reminded about my responsibilities as a brother and duties as a son.  I learned about being productive...
